A Closer Look at MyEducator Teams

We think MyEducator is a pretty great place to work, and we have several teams working tirelessly to make it that way. Everyone here plays an important role in our mission—to educate the world with high-quality learning materials that are simple to use and affordable, while providing excellent service for instructors, students, and authors. So let’s meet the teams who make MyEducator a leader in online learning.

Content Team

Providing high quality educational resources through the MyEducator platform starts with the creation of exceptional content. Content team member Holly Adams has this to say about her work:

“As members of the content team at MyEducator, we fill the role of editors, project managers, layout designers, fact checkers, and cheerleaders. We polish the work our authors send to us, help them meet deadlines, and cheer them on when things get hard. We lay out the content on the platform, add visual elements, and bring the author’s knowledge to life. Everything you see in your resource was touched by an editor! And thanks to MyEducator’s online platform, we are quickly able to fix any typos brought to our attention.”

Sales Team

Once a resource is on the MyEducator platform, the MyEducator sales teams make sure as many people as possible can find and start using the resource. We have two sales teams: inside sales and outside sales.

Inside Sales

The inside sales team focuses on using remote channels, like email, phone, and video calls, to connect educators with resources that will enhance their teaching and learning. Brad Sheen, a seasoned member of the inside sales team, explains what the team does this way:

“They generate and qualify leads, often serving as the first point of contact for professors exploring new course solutions. Adopting a consultative style, they tune in to the specific needs of each institution, offering personalized recommendations from MyEducator’s suite of tools and resources.

“From individual instructors to entire departments, the team ensures a smooth, personalized experience from first conversation to full implementation.”

How great to know that there is a dedicated team ready to make sure educators get exactly the support they need when adopting a MyEducator teaching resource.

Outside Sales

While our inside sales team works remotely, the outside sales team takes the MyEducator show on the road to connect in person. Members of the outside sales team travel to conferences and university campuses all over the globe, sharing how MyEducator resources can make a difference in teaching and learning environments.

“Our team is responsible for approaching instructors and programs and present[ing] our neat EdTech solutions for delivering modern education,” explains Scotty Pectol, head of sales. “We do this a few different ways. We visit campuses, we network current partnerships, and we attend conferences.

“With the world migrating online, much of the presentation work we do now is through Zoom. But we still love setting up ‘lunch and learn’ experiences on campus, where a department has a lunch provided by MyEducator and we have an opportunity to present our neat platform and interactive smart textbooks. When a department meeting is not an option, we will still visit campuses and meet instructors in person.”

Scotty is excellent at making sure everyone who has a touchpoint with MyEducator has an excellent experience. “I love outside sales because I love people, and you really get a chance to know a person when you spend time with them in person. I love feeling the energy on campus, seeing students with instructors and department staff who are all working together. We appreciate and honor our partnerships. We are passionate about student success.”

Support

With resources being actively used by students all around the world, problems inevitably come up. Internet issues, hardware and software configurations problems, LMS integration, and program bugs can crop up and derail the learning process. When students or instructors hit a snag, our support team shows up to kindly and efficiently get things back on track. Support team member Steve Jenkins explains why the MyEducator support team is the best there is.

“It’s an unfortunate truth that sometimes technology just doesn’t work like it was designed to. And while it would be great if we could always turn that technology off and then on again, that’s not always practical. Instead, the MyEducator support team is here for you. Whether it’s helping you resolve a bug or walking students through necessary steps, the support team will be there for you with extended hours to accommodate student and instructor schedules.”

Not only is the support team committed to being accessible, Steve points out, but they are also friendly and understanding. “With multiple students on the team, we know exactly how frustrating it can feel as a student when something isn’t working like it’s supposed to. With quick response times, empathetic team members, and an average tenure of three years, we’re your first stop for any question you may have. If we don’t know the answer immediately, we know who will!”

Development

Our development teams play a major part in making the MyEducator platform and resources effective for students, authors, and instructors. We have two main development teams—Voshi, our R&D department, and “the dev team,” who handle the platform’s daily operations.

Voshi

The Voshi team is essentially MyEducator’s research and development department. “The Voshi team works on improving our author platform and student textbook experience, as well as researching new tools and processes for authors,” explains Steve Scott, Voshi team member. The Voshi team takes the lead on developing exciting new features and products for authors, instructors, and students.

And like other MyEducator employees, Steve loves the atmosphere and environment at MyEducator. “Working at MyEducator is great! Everyone is helpful, competent, and responsive. There’s a lot of freedom to figure out the best way to help students, instructors, and authors have a great experience.”

The Dev Team

Although there is overlap between Voshi and the dev team, the latter focuses more on the practical and day-to-day workings of the MyEducator platform. They keep things running smoothly for authors, instructors, and students.

Lennart Boecken has this to say about his work on the dev team: “The dev team works on integrating with our various educational partners using things like the LTI 1.3 Specification. We also are adding AI tools to MyEducator to help students engage more with the material. Behind the scenes, we work on improving the technical structure of our application to ensure a reliable experience for students and professors. Lastly, when technical problems do arise, we respond to them to get everyone back on track as fast as possible.”

Accounting

In the immortal words of Jerry Maguire, “Show me the money!” Well, that’s just what our accounting team does. Meet Carly Nielson, the accounting superwoman of MyEducator: “I oversee the handling of MyEducator’s money. I handle all our Accounts Payable and Receivable, Payroll, Bookkeeping and Cash Flow Projections.”

Don’t let her simple explanation fool you. Carly keeps countless people happy: authors, who get paid for their content; employees, who get paid for their work; and students, who get access to our amazing resources at a remarkable value.

Human Resources (AKA, Motivation Station)

Finally, we have human resources. But here at MyEducator, we don’t just have HR, we have the motivation station! Nick Barr takes being “the HR guy” to a whole new level. “I love working in motivation station at MyEducator. Much of what goes on in that department falls under the traditional HR category. It’s a team effort with people in leadership to ensure the company gives the very best to its employees in terms of opportunity, compensation, and benefits.”

And as a member of the MyEducator content team, I can say that we really do get the best opportunities, compensation, and benefits around. I love the people and the atmosphere at MyEducator, and I love helping authors clearly share their unique and important messages with seekers of knowledge everywhere! But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what some other team members have to say about working at MyEducator.

“Hands-down, the best thing about working at MyEducator is the people. We have a super responsive and friendly team, and each person seems to genuinely care about helping each other—and our clients. The people who started the company are generous by nature, and that sentiment has filtered down to each person who works here.”

—Nick, motivation station

“Working at MyEducator is great because of the work environment they have established. Everyone is working together and willing to collaborate on projects to give our customers the best experience.”

—Noah, inside sales

“I love working at MyEducator because of the incredible people and the constant opportunities for growth. Since joining the team, I’ve gained valuable experience and developed skills that push me forward both in my career and as an individual!”

—Kelsey, inside sales

“I love the people at MyEducator. The culture at MyEducator is supportive, kind and collaborative. You can find these characteristics in everyone from top leadership to contractors I interact with regularly.”

—Carly, accounting

“One thing I really love about working at MyEducator is the flexibility they offer. I have a child that I need to bring to school each morning. I can do that, no questions asked. I love how easy it is to reach out to other teams not only to resolve issues quickly, but also to work through how we can make the experience better for both students and instructors.”

—Steve, support

“I appreciate the opportunity for interesting work, good team culture, flexibility, family-oriented nature, remote work option, and MyEducator’s willingness to invest in employees.”

—Lennart, development

Are you seeing a pattern? Employees love that everyone at MyEducator cares about each other and our clients—authors, instructors, and students alike. MyEducator has high values for positive culture, growth, and caring, and those values apply to all aspects of the work we do. And those values are evident in the quality of our products and service. We love our work, and it shows!
