Meet another of our international authors: Lydia Bals, a professor of supply chain and operations management at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany, and an expert in purchasing and supply management. A native of Germany, she speaks German and English fluently and has a working knowledge of Spanish.
Accomplishments in Purchasing and Supply Management
Dr. Bals has an impressive track record in her field, including authoring over 100 scholarly articles and gaining several awards for her research. In 2022 her paper “Reshoring for Sustainability: A Multi-Theory Decision-Making Framework” won the Best Paper Award in Sustainability from IPSERA, the International Purchasing & Supply Education & Research Association; and in 2017, her paper “Reshoring and Insourcing: Drivers and Future Research Directions” received the Highly Commended Award from Emerald Publishing. Clearly, Dr. Bals knows her stuff when it comes to supply chain and operations management!
In addition to her many accomplishments in research, Dr. Bals has worked extensively in the supply chain field all over the world, heading up global procurement solutions at Bayer CropScience (BCS). Before that, Dr. Bals led BCS projects related to procurement, R&D, and so forth in a number of countries, including Brazil, Turkey, Mexico, and Italy.
