Meet Dr. Jim Stice and Dr. Kay Stice: a dynamic duo of brothers who produce online learning tools to help professionals and students succeed in accounting—in the United States and across the globe! Both are emeritus professors of accounting, authors of several accounting textbooks, and international instructors in undergraduate, MBA, and executive education programs. The Stice brothers’ decades of work have shaped the nature of accounting education. Their versatility, international reach, and expert knowledge are not to be beat!
Online Learning Tools in Accounting
Jim, Kay, and their co-authors W. Steve Albrecht and Kevin Smith have together written a variety of accounting texts, including Principles of Accounting, Survey of Accounting, Corporate Financial Reporting, Intermediate Accounting, and Introduction to Accounting Using LinkedIn Learning. These learning resources are available online through MyEducator with added learning tools—such as videos, practice problems, and auto-graded assessments
These accounting resources are especially known for their substantial video content. Throughout each resource, Jim and Kay use videos to explain difficult concepts clearly with applications and examples. Watch below for an example of how videos are used to make the learning experience as informative as it is interesting and engaging.
Curriculum Development
Jim and Kay have also worked with many universities in helping to develop their accounting curricula and delivery. From that first introductory accounting course through the last course in a master’s degree in accounting, Jim and Kay have spent decades involved in the nuts and bolts of curriculum development.
Flying High with Accounting
Jim and Kay have also created over 40 top-rated finance and accounting courses on LinkedIn Learning, reaching hundreds of thousands of students and business professionals around the world. (You may have even seen their LinkedIn Learning courses available to watch on your last Delta flight—these in-flight options are literally taking accounting around the world!) You can also watch their LinkedIn Learning courses in 11 different non-English languages, including Chinese, Spanish, Turkish, and (the most recent addition) Indonesian. As of July 2023, these LinkedIn Learning courses have received a total of 45 million paid views.
Accounting Makes the World Go ’Round
The Stice brothers’ contributions to the field of accounting have spanned the globe—and not only because travelers can watch their accounting courses on the way to their destination. The international impact of their teaching is evident from their experience teaching in classrooms around the world.
In addition to being a professor at multiple universities in the United States, Kay has been a faculty member at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Moscow School of Management, Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan, the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai, and INSEAD in Singapore. Jim and Kay have co-taught courses at CEIBS in Shanghai and for INSEAD at both their Fontainebleau (near Paris) and Singapore campuses.
Both Jim and Kay have taught in a variety of executive education and corporate training programs in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. One of their most interesting experiences was teaching a U.S. GAAP training program for the accounting staff of the largest gold company in the world, based in South Africa . . . after which they were taken on a non-public tour to see the actual mining operation located two miles underground!
The Stice brothers’ international impact has transcended continents, ages, experience levels, and nationalities to help business professionals around the globe speak the common language of debits and credits, balance sheets, income statements, and statements of cash flows—after all, accounting is the “language of business.”
