Many people see creativity and intellectualism as separate and potentially opposing traits—one follows the heart, one favors the mind. But the separation of heart and mind, while an anatomical necessity, need not exist in our work or daily endeavors.
Human beings are inherently creative. We are problem solvers. We are artists in our own way. We grew up with boundless imagination, some toting around imaginary friends, some role-playing with siblings, and some creating an endless saga of stories around a favorite Barbie Doll or Batman action figure. But certain social and educational systems inadvertently suppress the creative instincts of the people they serve. So while creativity does not naturally dull with age, we must consciously exercise it to allow it to thrive (Land).
Exercising creativity, especially the artistic branch of creativity, is pretty infrequent in a corporate or academic setting. But last month, some MyEducator employees decided to do just that. It started as an idea to adjust the MyEducator logo to reflect how MyEducator resources are unique and customizable and grew into a collaborative 3D art project. A word has more depth and meaning than the sum of its letters, and a team of great people can produce amazing work.
